Basis MS-Excel formulas and functions
MS excel functions allow you to carry out many things such as addition, substation, division, calculating percentage, division, and many more. By using the correct formula, you can use them to find each one of them. For example, =B1+B2+B3+B4+B5 finds the sum of the range of values from cell B1 to cell B5.
- Excel Functions: You can use certain functions to carry out specific calculations in the specific order as per your convinces. For example =SUM(B1:B10). You can use this formula to add up all the values of B1 through B10.
- Date– You can use it to write data by using this formula=DATE(year, month, day). This formula will tell the date corresponding to the data entered in the parentheses, including values referred to from other cells.
- Trim– You can use this formula to remove the spaces in the cell before or after the text is written in them by using this formula=TRIM(text).
- Len– This function in MS – Excel lets you count the number of characters written in a specific cell. Further, it also let you know the number of characters in the cell by using this formula=LEN(text). Len counts all characters, including spaces.
Basic formulas
- Sum formula is used to calculate or to add the given data. You can add as much data as you want by using some formula. To use it, just enter the values you want to add. Write together in this format=SUM(value 1, value 2, and so on)
- Subtraction formula is used to subtract the cell you want to by using this formula. SUM(A1-B1) and so on, which you want to subtract.
- Multiplication formula– is used to multiply the data by using the formula=A3*B3
- Division formula– is used to divide the data, enter the dividing cells in the format =A3/B3. This formula divides the value in cell A3 by the value in the cell B3.
- Average formula– is used to find the average is typing the formula AVERAGE=(A3.B3, C3……) and in the end, press enters, and it will calculate the average of the data that you have entered.
- IF formula– is used to let you enter a text value into a cell if something else in your spreadsheet is true or false. You can use this formula =IF(logical test, value if true, value if false).
- Percentage formula– enter the cell whose percentage you want to know in this format=A1/B1. To convert decimal into a percentage, you have to select the particular cell which you want, then click the Home tab, and then you have to select ‘PERCRNTAGE’ from the number dropdown.
