The candles available in the market are often too expensive, making most of us not buy them. But what if we tell you that you can make candles at home so easily that even kids can do it! How to make candles
Making candles is easy and also good for the environment, as you can use your old candle wax and recycle them into beautiful-looking candles. Just keep in mind that while adults can make candles on their own, kids on the other hand require adult supervision. The candle-making process involves working with flame and molten wax, which is dangerous for kids. So remember to not let your kids make candles by themselves! Instead, both parents and kids can have a great fun and bonding time by making candles together.
Selecting the candle wax
If you have old candles at your home that you longer use then just use them to make a fresh new candle! Just chop up all your old candles in small pieces so that they can fit into the jar you will be using. Alternatively, if you don’t have any old candles to recycle then use wax beads.
Preparation for melting wax
You’ll need a large saucepan or a pot for this step. Now to melt the wax you have to make a double boiler. Don’t worry, it is nothing too complicated and is very similar to the process of melting chocolate. All you need to do is place your glass jar in the pot, fill the pot halfway with water and your double boiler is ready!
Melting the wax
With your double boiler ready, it is time to add the wax inside the glass jar. Then all you need to do is switch on the heat to a low flame and wait for 10-15 minutes for the wax to completely melt. Make sure you keep stirring in between!
Adding fragrance to the candle
The biggest advantage of making candles at home is the many customizations you can do to it. But first, make sure your candle wax is completely melted. Then you can add a few drops of fragrance oil of your choice to the melted wax. If you want to give your own color to the candle wax then make sure you are using a white-colored wax. That way whatever candle dye/wax crayon you use will be absorbed by the melted candle wax.
How to attach the wick
The most important part of a candle besides the wax is the wick. Once your candle wax is melted you should immediately take your other glass jar and attach the wick inside it. To do that you can either superglue the bottom end of the wick on the bottom of the glass jar or dip the wick into the melted was and then immediately attach it to the bottom. The wax on the wick will harden and attach it firmly to the glass jar.
Add the candle wax to the glass jar
With your other glass jar ready with the wick, it is time to pour in the candle max. But first, make sure to let the melted wax cool down for a few minutes so that it becomes safe for you and your kids to pour it inside the glass jar. Make sure you hold the wick in place while the melted candle wax is being poured.
Let the wax cool
Now all you need to do is wait and let the wax cool down so that it can get hardened into a candle. Just make sure you secure the wick with a pair of two thin sticks so that it maintains its center position.
Add the final touches!
If your candle looks a little uneven on the surface then you candle add some more melted candle wax on top to make it smooth. Then just cut off the excess wick and your homemade candle is ready!

Make beautiful floral-themed candles!
You can paint the glass jar with petals and other floral designs to decorate it. You can also add some flower petals and leaves inside the candle to give it a floral look. Just make sure to add them in step number 4 we listed above!
Make colored candles!
You can make colorful candles of your choice just by using wax crayons! Just add around 10 crayons of the same color to the melted candle wax during step number 4 listed above!
Make treasure candles!
You can make fun transparent candles that contain small trinkets inside them like toys or smooth pebbles. Just put your choice of treasure in the glass jar and then pour gel wax on top of it! Gel wax is transparent, so your kids will get to see the treasure inside the candle!
